The Riverrock Pack
This is my old pack, where I was born and raised. My big brother leads it now, with his mate and my sister-in-law, Rheana. Our parents, Ronam and Silven, used to lead it before they were killed in a hunting accident with a moose. It's not something we like to think or talk about, but...we can't pretend it never happened.
At any rate, this pack gets it name from a large rock jutting up from the river that makes a natural border with the Oaktrail wolves. There are between thirty and forty wolves, though today there could be as many as fifty, I don't know. I haven't been back to visit in quite some time. Not all of them are related, so this pack is made up of small or large families brought together under one leader.
The Riverrock Pack has a monarchy, though that can be changed at any time by any wolf, male or female, who wants to challenge the Alpha and take over. This doesn't happen often, it never did when I was there, but when it does if the Alpha is over thrown, he and is family are simply cast down to the ordinary ranks and the new wolf''s line takes over. The overthrown Alpha can never challenge again, but his children are free to challenge as they'd like. As far as I know, my brother was never challenged and even if he was, he has a size advantage over every wolf in the pack. Needless to say, I'm pretty sure he's still in charge.
Like every civilization, human, moose, whale, or otherwise, the Riverrock Pack has its own set of not so nice laws. By tradition, the Alpha is always the first wolf to see his children, aside from his mate, obviously. If another wolf sees the pups before the Alpha, his eyes would be scratched out and he would be sent on his way. Not a pretty law, by any means. When the pups are presented to the pack, they're presented in what is called "birth order." That means, the first born pup goes first, then the second, and so on, you get it. This number is sometimes used as an insult, as my big brother used it several times. It's frowned upon, but every still does it. And then there's the law Rhy saved me from: a runt in any littler is to be taken from the pack and killed. It's not so much out of hate, but more of a weakness thing. A runt would only bring the pack down and in winter, only another mouth to feed. I was lucky, I ended up being the first runt to grow up in the pack, thanks to Rhy. That being said, something tell me he no longer obeys that law, eh? My pack doesn't have any of these rules. We're more of a family instead of a town, like Riverrock is. I like it much better that way.
